In today’s context, engineers contribute greatly to the economic as they are highly demand by the world. In the olden days, engineers are only demand by construction, manufacturing and quality control sectors but now they are also highly demand in other sector likes health care which to design and manage health care systems, in banks to design security systems, also securities fund managers and investment firms in making decisions, and also other several more sectors.
Tertiary education plays a very important role in providing the education to meet today’s demands. Engineers are train to systematically analyze complex information, apply a holistic attitude in designing solutions and to be more flexible. I totally agree with your statement "engineers are not only educated with engineering related course but also educated with other courses like science, business management and other courses." In Temasek Polytechnic, it is compulsory for us to take 3 extra modules out of our field. The extra modules comprise of business modules, languages and also science. And again in University level, its mandatory to do so. We not only have technical and analytical skills, but our education package comes with management and also entrepreneurship skills.
ReplyDeleteI agree to what alan has written about the fact that engineers are no longer what they were back in the old days. They are more capable of doing more complex and analytical stuff and as the time goes on, the demand of such engineers will go even higher. Alan has elaborated well on how and why engineers are needed badly in many sectors.
ReplyDeleteYou make me smile and wonder with your sentence "Society needs a workforce which does not fear technology". I am just wondering if Thomas Edison were afraid of technology, well, the consequences will be very obvious right. You know how to make us engineer proud of ourselves!
